Wainwright Fund

A generous gift from the Egyptologist and archaeologist Gerald Averay Wainwright first established this fund in 1952. Through its postdoctoral fellowships, research grants, and a school prize, the fund supports archaeological research of the human past in the Middle East and North Africa, from the Palaeolithic up to and including the Medieval and post-Medieval periods (excluding the Classical Greek and Roman Worlds).

In keeping with the original scope of the gift, the modern countries covered by these terms are as follows: Afghanistan, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Burkina Faso, Chad, Cyprus, Egypt, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Georgia, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Niger, Oman, Palestine, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somalia, South Sudan, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, Türkiye, United Arab Emirates, Western Sahara, and Yemen.
